The challenge for Waterloo has not been in overcoming adversity, but rather in needing to maintain a position of leadership in a fast paced and competitive world.  It would have been simple for Waterloo to rest on the laurels of past successes, but doing so would have proven to be limiting for the future of the community. 

Aware of this challenge, Waterloo's community and business leaders have worked together to foster an awareness, appreciation and application of a broadband-equipped and intellectually focused community. 

In being named one of the Top 7 Intelligent Communities, Waterloo demonstrates that collectively it is ready to meet the challenge of reinforcing itself as a world class, internationally competitive city, and to thoroughly support the vision of a great community.
